Yeah, most of them are. Here in Vancouver for example I couldn’t name a single one that I would say can reliably report which way the winds are blowing in the Canucks front office.

But that doesn’t mean that there aren’t several around the league who aren’t generally reliable – taking anyone’s words as gospel is just ridiculous but my comment was in response to the guy saying that only Bob McKenzie and Darren Dreger (who, you’ll notice, follow many of these reporters I am talking about) are reliable.

“beat writers” are used by teams and given one sided (dis-) information constantly.
beat writers are good for information on one team, and near useless for trades because they have no ear on the rest of the league.

So ya
LOL come on man, “beat writers”?
90% team cheerleaders with a microphone and press credentials.

That’s incredibly oversimplified, there are tons of beat writers out there (Andy Strickland, Aaron Portzline, Michael Russo, etc) who are in the know and who generally don’t engage in empty speculation or rumour-mongering.

Conversely, both McKenzie and Dreger do engage in speculation (and while they do acknowledge it as such, their readers don’t seem to pick up on that).

Any trade rumor you “read” or “hear” that did not come from someone on TSN or Sportsnet.
aka McKenzie, Dredger etc.

Is garbage
