1. Crosby was having a pretty amazing season last year when him and the Pens were absolutely on fire. He was on pace to score a career high 122 points (32g 34a in 41 games). Gretzky had only one season in his first 13 where he scored less then 122 points, and that was his first seasons where he scored 109 points.

2. Crosby has 572 points. In order to take a run at Gretzkys point record of 2,857 he would need to score 2,300 more points… four times his current amount. Not only is that not going to happen, hes not going to come anywhere near that.

3. Crosby has 212 goals. Gretzkys record is 894. Crosby might have shown better ability to score goals over the last couple seasons, but its laughable to think he will score 682 more goals over the rest of his career. IF he had a faster start to scoring goals in his career, and IF he wasn’t hurt so much he MIGHT have been able to make a run at this mark… but that could be said about a lot of guys. Right now there are only two guys who have even a mathmatical chance to break this record, Stamkos and Ovechkin, and I doubt either of them will come close.

4. Gretzkys assist record is 1,963. Crosby has 357…. Crosby needs five times the amount of assists he already has. Simply put, hes not even going to be close.

Bottom line here is, I have no idea what records of Gretzky’s you think Crosby has a chance to break. Hes not even on pace to come remotely close to any of them. Hell, hes not even close to coming in 2nd or 3rd on any of these lists. Thats not even getting into the facts that Crosby has a tendency to get hurt, his long range health is in serious question, and no one is really sure how well Crosby will play from this point onward.

This isn’t just aimed at Crosby either. No one is much of a chance to break ANY of Gretzky’s records right now and that won’t change unless there is some sort of major rules change (such as larger nets).

Crosby is a once in a generation talent to be certain, but there’s a reason why he was called The Next One and Not The Great One II. Not on the same level.

Gretzky was a wimp, but he was the best player the game has ever seen and he was also an innovator. You didn’t see guys as soft as him putting up the numbers he did.

I don’t know why you would embarrass yourself by even bringing him into the conversation!

PS – Crosby’s absence over the last 2 years pretty much solidified the fact that even if he plays the next 20 years he still doesn’t touch The Great One’s career numbers.

Lemme know when someone cracks 150 points again, and then Ill remind them they are still 62 points behind to tie.

Maybe if they remove offsides and power plays continue even after a goal is scored (again)
