Too be fair, when Burke made the trade he was expecting more immediate dividends from Kessel which would lead to a higher position in the standings and possibly playoffs.
I would imagine that in his mind at the time, he figured he would be giving up a 12-18 overall pick, a 42-58 overall pick and another 12-18 overall pick in the next draft. Im sure if we could redo that trade he would in a second.
Imagine if somehow Burke could've pulled off the trade and still keep that initial first rounder that turned into Seguin, then he'd look like a genius and have one of the most lethal top lines for years to come in Kessel, Seguin, and Lupul.

Jesus, Knight's that good? I knew Hamilton was a walking death engine, but that makes the trade even more depressing. I didn't even think that was possible.

And I LIKE Kessel. He's been GREAT for the Leafs. It's just... Jesus, Seguin might still end up outperforming him ON HIS OWN in the future, to say nothing of what'll happen when the other two make it to the roster.

Guess there's no sense looking back on it, though. Neither team expected Toronto's draft picks to be that high. Boston was as shocked as anyone else at their fortune.
