Nobody can logically link what an announcer says to a cause and effect situation on the ice, yet I will bet all of us have seen a shut out blown, a goal scored by someone who was just been proclaimed scoreless over a certain goal tender….and on and on……you name your hated announcer, and what he says to bring on certain “jinxes”.
Can some cause a jinx? Logically, no, yet, to quote Shakespeare – “There Are More Things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio. … Than are dreamt of in your philosophy. …”

As announcing legend Vin Scully put it, though more about the silly no-hitter “jinx”, “If I seriously thought that what I say up in the booth could affect what happens on the field, I’d ask for a lot more money.”
Try this scientific experiment at home kids. I promise it is safe. From now on, say “shutout” repeatedly during every game you watch, especially late in the third period if one team is being blanked. If no one ever gets another shutout, well, get back to me and I’ll admit I’m wrong. If someone does still get a shutout, well, we can all sleep a little easier.

WHAT!!!??? Maybe for now because the Steelers are out of the playoffs, but there is no way in hell that Pittsburgh is a hockey town over a football town. Pittsburgh is a great hockey town, but if they could only have one sports team they would pick Steelers. Are you including youth sports too miketoasty? Thats believable, cause Pitt has quite the Minor Hockey programs. But I will stick by the Steelers and that regardless of Pens success, Steelers are Pittsburghs team.

As if we hadn’t heard this talked about a thousand times, Pittsburgh is now more of a hockey town than a football town, it just took almost losing the team for fans to realize how great the sport is.

Oh and how about that 37 year Stanley Cup drought? Think your team might not choke this year?

I love it when Miller does this. Superstition is silly; anyone that thinks about it would agree. He outright denies it, and laughs at anyone that gets upset. Love it.

I think you’re missing the point… you never say shutout. Although, I do understand your confusion; it’s hard for a Flyers fan to understand goalie accomplishments with Philly’s disappointing group of netminders.
