They're not the best tandem in the league, but the D in front of them is giving them no help at all.

You can't ride Keith, Seabrook and Hjalmarrson as much as they have.

Leddy's going to be good, but gets knocked off the puck way too easy.

So, yes, a D and a second line center would be nice.

So will Toews and Sharp coming back healthy.

You know, Kane's not as insane a trade as it sounds. First: he'll go for King Midas' ransom, especially this year with almost every major competitor looking to score a top-six forward long-term. Second: that's a lot of freed cap space with which some substantial contracts could be fit. A true #1 goaltender, a two-way #2 centre, a high-end defenseman, any given one of these could be going the other way to Chicago. They're not really a solid team on the back end, so why NOT send one of their monster $5m+ forwards, the least productive of the bunch, out while the trade market is frantic and will drive his value up? They've GOT scoring, and they've got it with him in the middle of a major slump. So they don't really seem to need him that badly. What they need is the ability to survive another top-tier offensive team, and they'll need some significant additions to pull it off. Kane's the easiest of their plethora of top-six attackers to drop when you look at their numbers.
