The woman inside the ThunderBug costume who was attacked by a Bruins fan? Yeah, she got fired

Jan 25, 2012, 11:54 AM EST

Via Puck Daddy comes news that ThunderBug, the Tampa Bay Lightning mascot – check that: the woman inside the ThunderBug costume – has been fired over the Silly Stringing of a Bruins fan, an incident we highlighted last week.

As you may recall, the Bruins fan didn’t take too kindly to ThunderBug’s antics and promptly attacked the mascot from behind.

With more, here’s WTSP in Tampa Bay, whose take-no-prisoners investigative team uncovered the story:

It wasn’t reported what other “factor” besides the Silly String incident may have led to the woman’s dismissal, but we hope it was for smoking cigarettes while wearing the costume.

When you face off with a mascot, you always end up looking like an ass.

Haha, local news always makes a big deal out of the dumbest stuff as they hold their tablet computers and act important.

I wonder if Thunderbug had health insurance?

A person has no right to touch, throw, shoot, sneeze, cough etc on another person, I see no problem with what the fan did.

I see no problem with stealing stuff but does that make it right? (That was hypothetical of course)

Wait a minute, you see no problem with someone attacking a person because they have a right not to have silly string shot at them? Do you not see the irony of that statement?

An appropriate reaction to being silly stringed would be to call them a name and moon them, not push them from behind.

Have you never been to a game as a fan of the away team? You take a few shots at your expense. Maybe you get silly stringed by the mascot (oh noes, the horrors)… it’s all in good fun and just something you deal with when there’s thousands upon thousands of people in the building who are fans or employees of the team you’re cheering against.

“The report says the incident with the fan wasn’t the only reason Thunder Bug got fired.”

Thunder Bug’s got some baggage. This one isn’t going away quietly. Expect a tell-all expose from PHT.

(PHT, if you can milk this one like Tim Thomas you’ll get a Pulitzer)

    • elvispocomo - Jan 25, 2012 at 2:07 PM

Nobody could milk this to the extent of Tim Thomas, since the woman behind Thunder Bug would be lucky to get 5 minutes of fame, never mind 15. Timmy, on the other hand, ends up in the spotlight all on his own.

193 posts in the Timmy piece can’t be wrong!

I bet the chick in the mascot costume supports T. Thomas. This has Glenn Beck written all over it.

I’ll bet you it was Michelle Obama in the costume- after all, she does sneak out of the White House unguarded. She thought the Bruin fan really was Tim Thomas! His beard looks about the same!

So she gets attacked by some asshole Bruins fan and she gets fired for it? And meanwhile, this moron just get’s a warning from security? Even though he flat out shoves her to the ground from behind? WTF kind of bullshit is that?
