no, ovi is not a “repeat” offender technically, which only determines how much salary he loses. However, he has had 2 previous suspension and 2 previous fines, all for similar activity (4 total) in a 6-year career. I would say he is a REPEAT OFFENDER. Also, he is an overpaid, cocky, arrogant idiot!

Had Ovie gone to the game, the media would have been all over him about the suspension, overshadowing the game itself and the other All-Stars. He was absolutely right about a suspended player not going.

Wish Tim Thomas had shown the same respect for his teammates, whose possibly once-in-a-lifetime recognition at the White House by the President of the United Staes was overshadowed by Thomas’ political stunt.

FIrst off Screw Roenick and McDonald and everyone else making a be to do about this..Second thank you for putting the fact that ovi missing the asg is better for the TEAM then it is for the league.i take my hat off to him for pretty much saying fuck you to the league.And third as a fan of the Caps (fuck off pitt and other asshole haters) i want ovi to get rest, party, get fucked or w/e he has to do, to pick up his and his teams game.So he came comeback take the leadership role and get this hockey team rolling and getting points on a daily bases…Is crosby skating yet?..so the masses can go back to talking about that 24/7 every day of the week

I know the All Star game may be old news for the casual fan but to me the ASG has always been for the young fans. I have been to a handful of live games and I was the kid sitting by the glass staring in awe of the players that I have grown up to listening on radio and watching on tv. That experience is what the ASG should be about, not egos or statements being made. The kids and grown up kids who want to see the all star game and other events, the little fans and big fans who are around the glass with their faveorite player on their favorite team’s jersey. My enthusiasm of the ASG has not been there the last few games but the people who really want to see the best should be the ones who benefit from the ASG. Opting out because you just do not want to be there is a lame excuse.

Like Mckenzie said, the league feels called out for turning a blind eye to shady hits by stars, so used this as an example to quell the masses. Ovi doesn’t qualify as a repeat offender due to the time elapsed, so really he should have gotten 1 game max for chargin with SECONDAY contact to the head. As far as the “snub”, all these people and players calling him out don’t realize how much he really has done for the league since 2005 since it’s astronomically more than they have even been asked to do. Andy Mcdonald thinks its classless – well, he hasn’t been asked to be the face of the league for seven years, has he? He wouldn’t snub the asg because those invites don’t arrive in his inbox like clockwork. Yes – Selanne and Lidstrom have been around longer, but is it really impossible to imagine Ovechkin being equally exhausted after his level of exposure (matched by the likes of Crosby) over the past seven years.

Absolutely correct. It isn’t that he feels he “doesn’t deserve to attend” at all. What he thinks he didn’t deserve, and what he’s trying to bitch about by dropping the ASG and acting all sullen, is a suspension for a dirty hit. You know, like the rest of the League WOULDN’T be bitching about in his shoes (well, Brad Marchand maybe…). He’s Alexander Ovechkin. How dare the NHL treat him like a commoner!
