Need a goalie? Antero Niittymaki on waivers

Antero Niittymaki might just finally get his wish.

After hoping to find a way to just play in a few games, the Sharks have put the Finnish netminder on waivers.

Niittymaki was squeezed out of the Sharks’ goalie rotation thanks to injury and with how well Thomas Greiss has played behind Antti Niemi and after rehabbing his hip injury he’s eager to play.

The problem for Niittymaki is that there’s nowhere to go in San Jose and given how little Greiss plays, there’s no chance for him with the Sharks. With those post-injury worries in mind, we’ll find out now if teams in need of a lift in goal bite on picking up Niittymaki.

The Tampa Bay Lighting  have been struggling in goal all season but after winning four in a row, GM Steve Yzerman may not want to risk mixing things up. If Tampa Bay opted to grab Niittymaki it would be a familiar situation as he played for the Lightning two seasons ago.

    Wings? Ty Conklin is struggling.

If they try, I’m sure Garth Snow will find a way to ruin it for Detroit.

Phillys prolly entertaining it as well seeing how bad Bryz has played

No way, Tampa beats them to it considering how low they are in the standings. Not to mention Philly would have to make a move to pick him up, where Tampa has just enough cap space to do so.

Lmfao as an isles fan I wouldn’t mind having him Montoya and Nabokov since nabby could be traded since he isn’t under contract next year. Does nittymaki have any years left after this?

      He’s a UFA this summer.

I heard that Wilson (Who has never seen a draft choice he would not trade) was offered a draft pick for him. But Wilson check with his draft guru Tim Burke who told Wilson that the team has a tremendous amount of great prospects right now. Burke cited the great Daniels Brothers as an example, and so Wilson decided to pass on trading him for picks.

Wilson then went into a log diatribe about how Niitty played great in 1960 Olympics and helped Finland win some kind of 2nd place medal.

How about we get him to back up Enroth in Buffalo?

To keep Greiss OR Nittymaki is just dumb. They both suck.

Someone will scoop him up, I’m sure. He won’t clear.

The Wings DO need someone other than Ty Conklin, to be sure. Conklin’s kind of useless.
