Sorry there Elvis, but Luongo is “not” the goalie which they’ve been telling us here in Vancouver for the past five years (ie: greatest goalie on the planet, human equivalent of the Hoover Dam, greatest franchise player ever, etc). He is as you accurately state, just a “fairly good” netminder … nothing more and nothing less. In fact, I have far greater respect for the likes of this “Shrimp” character and his ilk, as back in their day they had to rely completely on skill, reflexes and bravery to make their mark. Today however, Luongo and his peers are essentially nothing more than “Michelin” men who simply use their “massive” equipment to negate any chance of scoring, 99 times out of a 100. They have the laws of physics completely on their side with their ridiculously “over-sized” costumes and padding. So someone like Luongo can go around and brag about his accomplishment, but he doesn’t fool any of us who’ve been watching the game longer than he’s been alive !

It’s a fairly good accomplishment, and a reminder he can actually play hockey (and pretty well at that). His career stats reflect that and he’s not so far behind other goalies that someone can say he’s no good because he hasn’t won the Stanley Cup.
