Cogent points - Malkin has been streaky over his career and has had great chemistry with Neal and Kunitz. Ovechkin is a supremely talented player in his own right, but he lags behind number 71 in two key areas -

1. The Conn Smythe Trophy
2. The Stanley Cup

A great player makes those around him better - something Malkin is doing this season. A good player adds to his team's chances of winning, but doesn't elevate anyone else's game. Right now, that's where the difference between these two lies.

No argument that Malkin is on fire right now, and is clearly the hottest player in the NHL.

With that said, it has a lot to do with the way he is clicking with his line... especialy Neal. They are clearly feeding off eachother and helping to elevate eachothers play. Ovechkin on the other hand has not found that chemistry with anyone on the Caps team, and the Caps as a whole look simply lost when it comes to offense.

This round is obviously going to Malkin, but I still would not be willing to say Malkin is a better player overall then Ovechkin given Malkins up and down play over his career. Hes up now, but who knows how long it will last...
