A real shame. This guy did a real good job with the Moose and I think he is actually a really good coach. Pretty much everything that could go wrong went wrong this year in Columbus and his GM has repeatedly failed to find him a workable goaltender. I hope he gets another shot elsewhere.

Bottom line, it’s not his fault. The Jackets have been poorly run since day one and their draft record is abysmal. Hitchcock didn’t do too well with the Jackets either and he seems to be doing alright in St. Louis. No coach can transform a terrible roster into Cup contenders. There has to SOME talent to work with and there just isn’t enough in Columbus to make up a professional hockey team. No sensible coach would take the Jackets job. All it will do is destroy his rep. Nothing to work with on the roster, a hopelessly inept management and ownership team, and you’re surrounded by some of the best teams in NHL. Nationwide Arena – where hockey dreams go to die.

This has nothing to do with you being stupid or not. When your team doesn’t win games the coach is usually the first guy to go and as a coach of 13 years he knows that. Still, it’s gotta suck being fired for the first time.
