it looks like somebody didnt actually watch the game. the way the blues came out in the 1st period they were getting tremedous scoring chances. Khabibulin stood on his head the entire game. a lesser goalie wouldve been sunburned by the end of the first, and Khabibulin made some of those saves by the skin of his teeth. it couldve very easily been 4-0 by the end of the 1st period.
the main thing im seeing is lack of production on the power play. when you get 5 on 3 or 4 on 3 power plays you HAVE to convert! our power play was clicking pretty nicely earlier this month, hopefully Hitchcock is working on that before saturdays game with the bruins.

Problem: ultra-defensive, low-scoring teams are rarely Cup winners. When you're pinned in a best-of-7 series with a much higher-scoring team, one more prototypical of a potential winner (Wings, Bruins, Canucks, Rangers, Blackhawks), you have to be able to bring your own offense to a high level to trade blows evenly. New Jersey popularized the trap back in the day, but people forget they led the League in overall scoring in at least one year they won the Cup. To answer your question, then, they can't finish opponents off. If they can sign a strong scorer or two (Zach who? Bobby what?) to add a better offensive edge, though... watch out. They're very close.
