Who’s Warren Peters? Minnesota’s new No. 1 center, apparently

Jan 18, 2012, 2:08 PM EDT

From Mike Russo of the Minnesota Star-Tribune:

source:

For those unfamiliar with Peters (read: Everybody not in his extended family), here’s the skinny:

– 29 years old.

– Undrafted.

– 62 games of NHL experience.

– 90 games of ECHL experience.

– 472 games of AHL experience.

– Has played for the Portland Pirates, Utah Grizzles, Idaho Steelheads, Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights, Quad City Flames, Texas Stars and Houston Aeros.

– Now centering Dany Heatley and Devin Setoguchi on the Wild’s top line.

Peters is one of four current Wild forwards that began the year in AHL Houston (the others are Casey Wellman, David McIntyre and Carson McMillan), which tells you how badly injuries have ravaged the team. Mikko Koivu, Pierre-Marc Bouchard, Guillaume Latendresse and Jarod Palmer are all on injured reserve.

Peters and Co. aren’t the only temporary, minor-league stopgaps the Wild have used this year. Unforgettable names like Jeff Taffe, Cody Almond, Jed Ortmeyer, Kris Fredheim and Jon DiSalvatore have all played with the big club this season, though none of them ever got to play first-line center.

Taffe’s callup was spent on first line Wing with Koivu and Heatley

      So, not first-line center then?

More of a comment on the sad state of Minnesota’s forgettable prospects at the AHL level and current injury bug than on your post.

Whoops. Got my back up pretty quick there, huh. That’s what happens when you spend too much time in the comments section. The internet is a fierce place.

Next year can’t get hear soon enough –Granland, Larson, Zucker, Phillips, Croye at least some of those guys will be able to help.

Oh Thanks Reisbrough your the reason Peters and the like are getting so much run in Minny. At least Fletcher has restocked the cupboard and the future is looking bright.

      ***Coyle.

of your list I only expect 3 to make the team, I believe Phillips is 100% starting the season in Houston. Everyone else will have a fair chance at making the team. Expect the Wild to make a few trades before the deadline and stack prospects / more picks

Oh yeah and Brodin most likely will be on the team…and expect Matt Hackett to be the full time back-up. I think they should have a fire-sale because this team obviously can’t put up the goals to do anything if they make the playoffs.

Poor man’s? I’d say down on your luck, almost dead, homeless man’s Koivu
