When the Chicago Bears played at Memorial Stadium on the U of I campus in Champaign, they served alcohol that season. And that was for 8 games so I’m sure a temporary permit for 1 game shouldn’t be a problem.

Its not an issue. Temp liquor licenses are easy to get. For the NHL and UM even easier, actually a bureaucratic formality.
The real hold up is that the NHL probably wasn’t ready to announce it yet.
