Alex Ovechkin: Rap superstar

Jan 16, 2012, 10:33 AM EST

If you ever wondered what Caps superstar Alex Ovechkin does in his spare time, chances are you wouldn’t have said “budding Russian rap star.”

Luckily for you, you’ve got proof that, yes, Ovi can rap about as well as he back checks. Courtesy of Ovechkin fan blog Alex Ovetjkin, we get a look at Ovechkin’s rap debut with a Russian group on a song titled, “Champion.” Alex Ovechkin… Champion? Maybe if it’s the World Championships.

If you want to skip right to Ovechkin’s part in the song, jump to the 2:55 mark of the video where he says (translation thanks to Alex Ovetjkin):

“Dynamo’s alumni, the eight on my back, I am the all-stars attraction, the stands are jampacked.”

Jay-Z and Eminem better look out, Ovi’s coming for ‘em.

    See, in my experience, rappers generally have a massively overinflated opinion of themselves. Think they’ve accomplish vastly more than they ever actually have. From that perspective, Ovi’s a natural.

    As a Caps fan seeing this video is devastating………

    @danphipps01

    1 Calder, 2 Hart’s, 1 Ross, and 2 Richard trophies seems like pretty good accomplishments so far for a 26 year old NHL player.
