It’s absolutely ridiculous that what Malkin did was described as a ‘low hit’ by this site when in the clip of the play INCLUDED in the article, the announcer clearly describes it as ‘ …slides under the Lecavalier check…’

Anybody that WATCHES the video sees he was a) facing away from Vinny, b) appears to make absolutely every effort to avoid the body contact and c) does not appear to touch Vinny at all. He essentially dove out of the way of the check.

All you guys do any more is STIR THE POT…

Anybody that thinks Malkin did something wrong is a COMPLETE IDIOT!

And any player…or ex player…that says Malkin should have TAKEN the hit is also WRONG. With the way today’s injuries occur along the boards, who could blame any player for avoiding the contact when possible?

Watch the hit…Vinny is facing away from Malkin and tries to get a piece of him as Malkin goes by. It’s his own STUPID fault if he stumbles into the boards. It’s not Malkin’s responsibility to take a hit…especially in that case.

Vinny wanted a piece of Malkin…SWING AND A MISS…there is no foul here…it’s a WHIFF.

I think that Vinnie was just a bit frustrated by the Pens (Malkin) kicking their butt.
that being said he should have got fined for the sucker punch (no b*lls NHL) That was not a hockey play that went to far (Marchand); it was a purposeful act of assault.

To mention another item was was blown by the Referees — the slash on Malkin that prevented his 2nd empty net goal….They should have awarded him a goal clearly based on the rule book.

And apparently I missed the punch that Lecavalier threw while the linesmen were standing between him and Malkin. So, I have to partially rescind part of my comment and say that that was a bit cheap.

There was no reason for Malkin to “go.” He’s not a fighter and said after the game he wanted to stay on the ice. I would do the same thing if somebody came after me FOR NO REASON.

You must have missed the part where after the missed check, Lecavalier takes a shot at Malkin (no where near the puck), who then skates away to the other side of the ice… then comes back and returns a shot to Lecavalier. They swing at each other, exchange some backhanded compliments, and it’s over. Personally, I saw nothing cheap from either player.

It’s hockey – these things happen.

FYI he has 17 goals at half way point.. That equals 34 at end of season. Not too shabby. Just Stammers 30 makes most people look pedestrian. Lightning’s woes are less about offense and totally about goaltending and defense. Vinny is doing his part. But he isn’t going to be much help in goal where the true weakness of this team is. 38th and 45th ranked goalies out of 45. Swiss cheese factory in goal in Tampa.

It’s not.. He dodged the check. Vinny didn’t like it but I think it was blowing over until Malkin put his shoulder into his chest with the puck no where near them. Malkin takes a cheap shot and then hides behind his teammates. SO very Subban of him.

Except for the part where he wouldn’t go. The extra shot towards the head started that whole melee. Malkin is lucky Kunitz Grabbed Vinny. Vinny would have kicked his butt. Shades of Vinny vs Iginla in the cup finals.

Lecavalier’s beaking because he’s pissed that his comically awful team got destroyed (again) and he failed to be a difference-maker despite his albatross of a contract (again). Rather than trying not to suck, he’s approaching losing at everything from the Ryan Miller angle: blame other teams for imaginary cheapshots instead of owning up to your problems like a man. Stay classy, Vinny. Enjoy those gargantuan paycheques you totally earn. =/

How is this in any way similar to what Marchand did? Last time I checked, the NHL rule book doesn’t say that a player must accept a body check at all times. Malkin ducked out of the way, Lecavalier whiffed on the hit. Just because he got mad about it (and probably was smarting from all of the losses that Tampa has had) doesn’t mean that Malkin was taking him low.
