Two young, potential stars and one of the greatest defensemen of all-time for a possible half-year rental? How bout no. We just got a huge steal of a trade when we got Schenn, Simmonds, and a second round pick for our captain who just so happened to have like 8 years left on his contract at a VERY affordable price. you're asking for twice that for a guy with half a year left on his deal. You must be smokin something pretty crazy

Huh. So JVR's concussed too. Well, that's not gonna fly, then. Not unless they go all the way to the deadline and Weber's still not signed in Nashville. The only way they'd take two injured guys and a prospect, even a very well-regarded one, is if they were backed into a corner and had no options other than loosing him for nothing.

Weber would basically fill Pronger's role and then some. He's pretty much a perfect fit for them and with their high-power offensive style, he'd notch the huge numbers Nashville's not able to generate for him. Unlike the Predators, the Flyers have a lot of top-tier forwards to put the puck in the net off of Weber's endless supply of feeds, and his howitzers would work a lot more often with a guy like Hartnell screening.

Pronger's clearly not done with the NHL. He's a warrior. He wouldn't accept leaving on any terms but his own. So, that in mind, offering Pronger (who's still one of the better two-way defenders in the League and only two years removed from an Olympic performance) and a couple of their plethora of offensive options for Weber might be worth considering. The Preds have always been able to develop new defenders. They can raise new prospects to take over that role before Pronger's done. What they can't seem to do is find firepower. So, Philly offers something like... eh, it'd have to be pretty impressive. Let's see... JVR, Pronger and Schenn? Or maybe Couturier, given Pronger's health, but that's getting really hefty. Either way, it's a major investment, but Weber's one of the top three defensemen in the NHL. He makes the team he's on noticeably better all on his own. He's worth a big trade.
