No, but apparently just about every player drafted into Pittsburgh has a contractual requirement to balance his enormous hockey skill by being out at least a third of the time. See: Lemieux, Mario.

Seriously, this team has to be the most consistently-injured out of the whole goddamn batch. Yeah, Buffalo, Columbus and Philly have enjoyed patches of variable length in which numerous key guys were hurt, but that's just this season. Over the last few years, though, has any team lost as many man-games as the Pens? I'd be surprised.

This is not good. And that is one banged up squad. Two guys have combined to miss 50 games and that is still only about 24% of the total time missed by roster players. Are hoods beating the players with bats in their sleep?

To be fair, Staal was on pace for around 30 goals until he got hurt. Not very many assists, and I do see your point. I think his price tag is perfect for what he does.

"Crosby’s 12 points (in eight games) still have him 11th in scoring on the team. He has four more assists than Jordan Staal, who has played 34 games this year."

Is that shocking? Jordan Staal isn't exactly a scorer. He's one of the best third line centers in the league, he's a valuable NHLer, he's capable of being a replacement #2 center in a pinch, but he is best suited as a heavy lifter. If it weren't for his draft number and last name he's a guy who is defensively sound and capable of around 50 points.
