Jack Johnson pays tribute to Tim Tebow

Jan 10, 2012, 12:57 AM EDT

Honestly, “Tebowing” was kind of annoying a month or two ago, but it seems more acceptable after Tim Tebow actually had a great game on Sunday. (Rather than a fantastic quarter/drive or what have you.) The Los Angeles Kings are putting together an unusually prolific offensive night – for them, mind you – and Jack Johnson celebrated ending his own goal slump by “Tebowing” tonight.

I don’t understand the popularity with Tebow. I just don’t get it.

If he would’ve lost his playoff game, he would’ve been a .500 QB with a 40% completion rate. Sadly, I think it’s because he’s white. Vince Young came in the league with an ugly throwing motion, great running ability, and a knack for 4th quarter comebacks. The media said he was a bad QB who got lucky to have a good team around him. But nobody mentions Denver’s suffocating defense and #1 running game (though Tebow is a part of that of course).

You kidding? ESPN was slurping VY his first few seasons.

Vince Young was/is also a headcase. Seems like some anxiety disorder as well. That’s what has kept him off the field during some of his stay with the Titans.

        It’s not race. It’s religion.

That’s why if you point out any tangible shortcomings specifically to Tebow’s game, you are an atheist hater, and that is all there is to it. If you point out that the things he’s getting lauded for are barebones requirements to be a backup in the league, you are a “sad, pathetic person.”

The Broncos win because of Tebow, the Broncos lose because the team around Tebow isn’t good enough. I don’t hate the guy at all, but the tebowmania tires me.

VY’s case did turn our poorly, maybe that was a bad example. I agree with the “Tebow wins, the team loses” idea. In a vacuum, I love Tim Tebow. But I hate “Tebowmania.” Whether it’s race, religion, or whatever, I think it’s pretty clear that his football skills aren’t earning him all of this media attention. I believe he is and will continue to be a good player, but his play alone doesn’t warrant the attention he’s getting. I will say that after the Giants beat the Falcons, in his post game interview, Victor Cruz said something like, “First off I want to thank my Lord Jesus.” And it got no attention – cause that’s not an abnormal thing for a football player to do after a game.

O’Brien, you have no right to share your opinion on Tebow or Football for that matter. Save it pal. We get enough from Florio on his wretched site. Stick to puck, it’s what you barely know best.
