By Fraser's logic, Burrows was in an altercation with Paille for which he should have been penalized, therefore, Thornton is the 3rd man in and should have been ejected under the spirit of the rule.

The most amusing part of this otherwise awful incident is the attempt to somehow characterize Salo is a bloodthirsty hitter.

Sami is quite possibly the most timid defenceman on the team. His nickname is "the owl" for goodness sake. I would love to see him put a bit of edge into his checks, but good luck with that. If anything, he's the poor bastard who always gets the rough end of a hit and suffers lengthy injuries as a result. He could never have attempted to hurt Marchand. He doesn't have the rat's skill-set.

"Thorton lunges at Burrows and punches him in the face in front of the bench. The Canucks do what any other team would have done and defend their 1st line winger."

No that isn't what any other team would do. That's called the third man in (and in this case the fourth, fifth, and sixth) and is a penalty. In fact, at least one of those guys should have been kicked out of the game, yet only Lucic was. And people still bitch about all the breaks going the Bruins way.

You misread (intentionally?) my bit on "the same could be said for Marchand's clip". I'm talking about frustration--which Shanahan address WRT Marchand, and which I gave as evidence.

Both Boston and Vancouver consist of a bunch of dirty, whiny players. That's the truth.

It pains me that Boston is so good though. Tim Thomas in net, with a top-5 goalie backing him up. I hate the Bruins and they are obviously dirty and vicious no matter what Bruins fans may say, but they are a very good hockey team, I'll give them that.

Ok ... where do I begin. (you do realize the clip I was actually referring to is directly below it right?)

1 - Burrows reached around Hank with his stick straight out towards Thorton and it got up around his face, I'm not even saying that Thorton was wrong for going at Burrows I've just heard all over the place today that Thorton was speared in the throat (Bruins fans, media, and the Bruins themselves) so if you didnt think that then fair enough ... we'll ignore that one.

2 - The Boston Bruins tough guy is jumping the 1st line winger in front of the bench in the middle of a change, the Canucks respond and are grabbing at Thorton (the only one who really threw a punch at him from behind was Lappy and even then he's more trying to pull him off Burrows). Understand that ever since last June all this team has heard is people saying they dont stick up for each other, they let their stars get punched and roughed up and do nothing about it. Now that they do stand up for each other they're accused of "ganging up" on poor Thorton. I wasnt pointing the finger at anyone, I was simply pointing out that Thorton punched Burrows in the middle of a group of Canucks and the only reason it was an outnumbered situation was becuase it takes more than a second for the other plays on the ice (Bruins) to skate over and get involved.

3 - You lost me when you said in regards to Salo's actions being out of character that "the same could be said for Marchands clip", Wrong. That is completely in line with Marchands character, even ignoring his well documented history simply look at the play seconds before when he reacted to a clean shoulder on shoulder check by punching Salo twice in the back of the head. And again, I think the League is a little more reasonable than to feel the need to talk to Salo about not throwing his stick (something I've never seen him do before) next time hes submarined, twisted up like a pretzel, and concussed by a lil rat.

4 - What all these points are really just saying is, you're reaching to try and pretend that this "gang up on Thorton" or that Salo tossing his stick into the corner is somehow on the same level and Marchands hit. (and if you don't then why do keep bringing them up)

5 - The clip of Raymonds hit perfectly sums up what Shanny was talking about when he said in certain circumstances its understandable that a similiar hit would be dished out if it was in a "defensive" circumstance, or "bailing" out instinctively. Theyre NOT the same hit, that was the point.

You posted the uncalled, un-hearing'ed, un-suspended Canuck "clip" that was a carbon copy of Marchand's.

But regardless, let's do a point-by-point rebuttal:

1) Burrows deliberately brings his stick up at Thornton's face. He earned retaliation. Did I say Burrow speared him?
2) Three Canucks go after Thornton...then three more. No other Bruin has made it to the scrum. They're all throwing punches. Whole-lining one guy is not something "any other team does". Find me one other time this has happened.
3) You write "As for this “throwing his stick into the crowd” …he was clearly pissed off, and frustrated, (concussed), and tossed his stick aside angrily. Totally out of character for Salo". The same could be said of Marchand's clip. In fact, Shanahan DID say it: "Marchand is clearly frustrated by the hit." So we're left with each player's history. Marchand's history is one of borderline (and over the line) hits. Thus, he got a hearing and a suspension. But Shanahan has been holding hearings for all kinds of offenses, for first-time potential offenders as well. I'm not saying that Salo *should* get a hearing or suspension because of his stick-toss--I'm saying that the league should at least warn him about his reckless toss. We'd be singing a different tune about Salo had that stick actually landed in the stands (which it nearly did).

Instead, we haven't heard anything. Not about the 6-on-1, not the stick toss, and not the Mason Raymond clip. (Heck, you could add the bite from last year to that list.) No hearings, no mention of discipline. It's inconsistent.

A team full of gutless sucker-punchers. And when Bruin fans try to spin and defend, you look like the morons you are to the rest of hockey's fan bases. So keep up the good work. The Bruins got away with dozens of cowardly acts last year because Greggie Campbell had his daddy Colie looking after things.
Now the attention is clearly focused on your team, making it impossible for head office officials to look the other way or cover up. You made your bed, Enjoy!

Oh. My. God. ...you are something else.

(You can FF to the 1:23 point if you like)

Let's do a play by play of this "spearing in the throat" attack and "6 on 1".

Thorton gives Burrows a lil slash on the ankle, Burrows turns and responds with poking his stick back at Thorton, Thorton waves his hand and the stick gets up around his face (dont even TRY and pretend he was "speared in the throat"). Thorton lunges at Burrows and punches him in the face in front of the bench. The Canucks do what any other team would have done and defend their 1st line winger ...seconds later the Bruins do what any other team would do and defend their team mate. (that scenario is played out countelss times a season around the league) When you guys try and spin it that Thorton somehow got jumped by a gang of Canucks you lose credibility with pretty much everything else you say.

As for this "throwing his stick into the crowd" ...he was clearly pissed off, and frustrated, (concussed), and tossed his stick aside angrily. Totally out of character for Salo and any reasonable person should be able to determine that he wasnt intending to throw his stick into the crowd.

"let Salo hurt him"!? The exact play happened seconds earlier and it played out the way it does countless times in a game, forward tries to get the puck out and D man steps down. Marchand doesnt like it and punches Salo in the head twice ...

The message the NHL is saying is that you should take a hit like a man and not ignore the puck and take out an unsuspecting player out at his knees.

Nevermind the fact that Salo doesnt exactly punish people when he's out there to begin with.
