Julien’s been quoted as having to keep him in check on a regular basis and he’s done this manouver more than once, and had a suspension and fine already. It’s only his second full season – he’s not exactly on the path to righteousness and enlightenment.

I do hear Boston supporters saying it was an illegal hit, but I hear a lot of people defending it too, including yourself. You’ve even said Chara has had to stop hitting in some situations because he’s so tall. Well, if Marchand is the opposite, why would he avoid hits by making himself shorter? That would be like saying Chara should avoid head contact by jumping over players since he’s so much taller – clearly that would solve the issue right there!

All either reaction would do is increase the odds of danger when there’s only a small likelihood of danger to begin with, and we see the result in a case like this.

Marchand being 5’9″ must be used to taller players coming in to hit him. If he’s not, or he thinks taking someone out at the knees is the only acceptable defensive action to avoid getting hit shoulder to shoulder two times within a 30 second span, then he should consider playing Women’s Hockey, where bodychecking isn’t allowed.

I’m pretty sure no one would take him though, even as a team mascot for the Tallahassee Turtles.

Look, I’m not saying Salo was trying to hit him in the head. It would have happened as a natural course of throwing the hit because of how short Marchand is. Chara had to stop bodychecking so much because of the same height problem–his shoulder is right at head level. Marchand’s head is right at a lot of players’ shoulder level.

He plays over the line sometimes. But people are acting like he’s the dirtiest player ever.

Have you ever played the game? Clipping is a dangerous low hit to the knee at ANY angle, they make contact on the side of Salo’s knee. It’s right in front of you, watch the replay again, but this time watch it without the express intent of NOT seeing a clip.

I agree on the Lucic call, that was unlucky and maybe even some past history weighed in since I don’t think they saw it clearly. One foot on the bench isn’t enough to make that kind of call whether at the start of the game or the end.

I can even see why they would waive off that icing call – it doesn’t touch anyone but it goes right past one of the Sedins by the Bruins blue line. The Canucks should have played the whistle regardless and then there wouldn’t have been a goal to begin with.

Canucks fans haven’t been happy about what went on in the SCF, but they’re the first to admit Vancouver was never going to win scoring only 8 goals in 7 games. If they have half the success on the PP they did the rest of the year and stop a few more pucks, maybe it goes the other way, but they didn’t so the better team in that series won.

We can go at this all day, because there are examples from every team in the league, including the Canucks and the Bruins. I’ll say again, no one is innocent of these kinds of things, and the Bruins certainly aren’t choir boys only guilty of roughhousing and sticking up for themselves.
