Ya, you’re right. The fans personally lost the North Stars. If you were a hockey fan before the Lightning came into the league you would know that the fan base had nothing to do with the team leaving. Norm Green wanted out of town because of a sexual harassment lawsuit. Gary Bettman has repeatedly said that he never should have allowed Norm to take the Stars. Being in that hockey hotbed in Tampa Bay I thought I’d get you up to speed since you’ve probably been a hockey fan for a whole handful of years now. I love hearing from a hockey expert who probably can’t even skate.

Cry me a river. The biggest rival for the Wild is 2 freaking timezones away. They played their first road game in their own timezone in December! East coast snobs get on my nerves. Try dealing with the insane travel that the midwest teams deal with and get back to me. Wild fans can’t hardly catch a game that starts before 9pm. It makes an insane amount of sense to have Minnesota, Chicago, St. Louis, Winnepeg, Dallas, Columbus and Detroit in the same conference. They’re all within 7 hours of each other and these teams can enjoy the cushy schedule that the east coast teams benefit from year in and year out.

This is simple, Fehr can’t give this owners anything for free right now. Also this might push the NHL to the negotiating table quicker then the end of the current CBA allowing enough time to get a deal done before another lockout.

Couldn’t agree with you more, FinFan. In order to play a playoff series against anyone but the teams in your division, you’d have to make the equivalent of the conference finals. STUPID. Never understood what the NHL was trying to accomplish with this, but I think most fans would be largely unhappy with it once it played out.

We have enough of those Vancouver d-bag fans coming to our building as it is. Any excuse to keep them and their moose back across the border is good by me.

As a Sharks fan I hate the realignment as well. The playoff seeding is and was stupid. Playing your own division 7 times, then have two playoff series against your division. And what in the end could be 50 games against just two opponents in one season. 1 x7 regular season games plus 1 x7 playoff games x 2 opponents is just way overboard.

As a Bruins fan, I hate the proposed reallignment. Other than Montreal and Buffalo, there’s a bunch of teams I can’t get excited about. We’d only see the three teams closest to us (200 miles) once each.

This has nothing to do with travel concerns. It’s all about a power play by the PA. No changes this major will get done until the CBA is settled. The league took a provocative position by intimating the PA had no say in realignment and now the PA is saying ‘oh, yeah, just watch us.’

I’ll say this, there are a bunch of guys playing in the AHL who’d be happy to take a plane anywhere to play in the NHL. And at any time.
