PHT’s Morning Skate takes a look around the world of hockey to see what’s happening and what we’ll be talking about around the NHL world and beyond.

Baiting Leafs fans can be easy to do. Doing it over All-Star Game voting though? For one Ottawa Sun columnist, this was his moment to strike while the iron was hot. Sigh. (Ottawa Sun)

The Flyers are really hoping Kimmo Timonen‘s wrist isn’t hurt badly. They can’t afford (in many ways) to have him be hurt long term. (CSNPhilly.com)

The IIHF is launching a concussion task force to get to the bottom of things and figure out how why the game is going through such an epidemic with these injuries. (The Globe And Mail)

Chicago GM Stan Bowman has a shopping list for making trades: A center and a defenseman. So obviously that means he’ll get Ryan Getzlaf and Lubomir Visnovsky, right? That’s how it works, isn’t it? (CSNChicago.com)

Ryan Miller is ready to go after Dominik Hasek’s team record for wins. Of course, if he were playing better he would’ve broken it by now, but that’s beside the point. (Buffalo News)

It’s hard to impress Jonathan Toews, but he liked a lot of what he saw out of rookie Andrew Shaw last night. (CSNChicago.com)

It just gets worse for Columbus. Mark Letestu broke his hand in a hard-luck loss to San Jose last night. (Puck-Rakers)

Finally, Coyotes coach Dave Tippett wasn’t too pleased with how Drew Doughty‘s overtime goal counted last night. Should it have? (NHL)

Did you actually read the article? The dude is a Leafs fan.

“Toronto will someday win a Stanley Cup and parade down Yonge St.
It’s nice to dream anyway. And I say that as a long-time suffering Leaf fan.”

Classic case of a reporter creating a news story to write about. What should be reported on is that NHL fans as a whole are concerned about the process – be it Leaf fans, Flyer fans, Blue Jackets fans. To say that Leaf fans are ‘whining?’ not even close – I’d lean toward ‘indifference’. However, the writer is playing to his audience and writing what they want to hear regardless of whether the story is based on fact.

What a horrible article by Tim Baines. Living in Ottawa, I have never heard of him. Granted, I try not to read the local sports media; they all seem to have this level of journalism. Which is none.

Can’t say I’ve heard any Leafs fans whining about ASG voting. Most people don’t have a lot of interest in this game. It’s become pretty contrived and boring.

Still, I guess the Ottawa media needs to play up insignificant victories over the Leafs because historically the Sens haven’t scored any major ones on the ice.
