Flyers brass tells Bryzgalov to stop talking for a while

According to CSNPhilly.com’s Tim Panaccio, Flyers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov has been told to knock it off with all the chit-chat.

Ilya Bryzgalov’s pre-Winter Classic press conference, in which he announced he wasn’t going to start and then proceeded to have four different scrums with the media, didn’t go over well with Flyers brass.

Naturally, for the second time this season, the Bryzard of Oz was told to shut his mouth and keep his conversations simple — not planetary complex.

Panaccio reports that Bryzgalov still chatted and joked around with the media today, but he was “clearly on-guard.”

Bryzgalov stopped 30 of 34 shots in yesterday’s 5-4 win over the Blackhawks. While the victory was nice, it didn’t help his numbers (3.01 GAA, .890 SV%).

Panaccio expects Bryzgalov to start tomorrow afternoon at home to the Senators, with Sergei Bobrovsky getting the nod in Sunday’s rematch at Ottawa.

…A Philly sports team telling a star player to shut up and play better? Why didn’t the Eagles think of this YEARS ago?

What took the Flyers so long? Having said that, they had to be aware that Bryzgalov is well known for his ‘colourful’ banter.

starting to feel bad for Bryz after the winter classic snub. he had a nice new helmet done up and retro looking gear and then.. nope.. your not going to play

not to mention the spotlight on him the entire 24/7 series

some serious weaksauce from the flyers “brass”

Maybe if he sucked less they’d reward him. You know, like how hockey’s SUPPOSED to work.

I feel for Bryz too, he was put in the spotlight for obvious weird remarks and stories. The problem was none of his teammates came to his rescue or to defend him. Granted he’s a bit of a wacko but what goalie isn’t.

Some guy named Lundqvist seems not too odd, although his partner in crime, Biron….. that is another story altogether!

You’ll get defended when your save percentage rises about .890 and your GAA falls below 3. I like the guy a lot but if he’s going to play like this AND piss off management it’s going to be a LONG 9 years.

    Only 81/2 more years.
