Problem with that theory is, Moore had already fought once in that game. Answering the bell is a fair thing to expect, but what a lot of people choose to ignore is the fact that Moore had already done that. He took on Matt Cooke in the first period in a stand-up fight. Another factor to consider: this wasn't just one game later. They had played a game between the one where Moore cheapshotted Naslund and the one where the Bertuzzi thing went down, and none of Vancouver's players called him out then. Much like Buffalo handled their quarrel with Boston this year, they didn't do a damn thing for a long time despite having ample opportunity to do so.

For the record, I'm no fan of Moore - he's been a cowardly, greedy little shitweasel with his repeated attempts to go after Bertuzzi's family instead of just the man himself in the courtroom, and waiting to open the case until one day before the window to do so expired specifically to fuck with Bertuzzi as he was just about to start in the 2006 Olympics. He's utter trash. But he answered the bell fair and square against Cooke and Crawford just kept sending guys after him anyway. He didn't try to duck his punishment. He took it head-on. Where are the excuses now? He did exactly what he was supposed to do within the game's unspoken rules of self-policing - and Bertuzzi, Crawford, whoever you want to blame for it, ignored that.

there's no doubt in my mind Crawford asked Bertuzzi to seek retribution on Moore.. probably something along the lines of " Bert, i want you to go out there and get him... make him pay" clearly implying a fight or hard body check is needed, anyone who thinks Crawford specifically asked him to "go break his neck Bert!" or "make sure you end his career!" is completely daft!

and there's not a coach in the NHL that wouldnt have said the same. the game is supposed to police itself, but when you dont stick up for your actions ie fight after concussing the opposing teams star player during a questionable hit then what do you think is going to happen?

same goes for McSorley and Brashear...if Brashear had just fought him then maybe Marty could have ended his career on his own terms.

He effectively ran Moore out of the game. But if Crawford told him to seriously injure Moore, Bertuzzi probably has a case. In such a case, Bertuzzi had the option not to attack Moore. But if he didn't, he'd have been in trouble for disobeying his coach. Which, due to NHL culture, might have led to Bertuzzi being blackballed.

I don't know if Crawford told him to seriously injure Moore. But it's not out of the question.

moore has already been adequately compensated.

wish bertuzzi hadnt brought crawford into this though. if anything he shouldve tried a counter suit on moore in conjunction with naslund, get the whole mess thrown out in the trash where it should be.
