So I used a voting bot program to vote 3 million times over 48 hours to make sure Karlsson was the leading vote getter and 4 sens get to start.

The NFL sort of does the same thing I believe, where the fan vote is something like 1/3 of the weight of the Pro Bowl voting for the starters.

meanwhile, as of today, the NHL point leader and his twin brother who’s tied for second mind you, are ranked somewhere below Alfredsson’s stick on the ballot

Pretty much. I watch the skills competition, but the game? Couldn’t care less. I’d be all for moving the skills competition (which is a lot of fun, and the players seem to agree) to right before opening night for the regular season, and ditch the actual All-Star Game entirely.

Of course, the advertisers would fly off the handle about that, so we’re stuck with it.

Don’t let the fan votes be all that it takes to get them into the All-Star Game. I think the league and players should vote in December. Then the fans can vote those guys in NO WRITE-INS through the first two weeks of January. All-Stars are All-Stars because they’re recognized as exceptional players by not only the fans, but their peers.

I’m certain the All-Star games would be better and more meaningful if they were there because other players in the league thought they deserved to be there. I don’t think anyone who deserves to be there wouldn’t make it with this system and I’m CERTAIN players who don’t deserve to be there would get voted in.

The system in place has been dreadful from a hockey fan’s standpoint. Why isn’t Stamkos number 1? Or Giroux with his break-out season as a superstar, or Kessel who’s also killing it? I’m pretty sure the players would agree those three guys are up there in the ballots.

Let the Ottawa fans pretend their players are stars for the day – the great players need the rest anyway. I just hope a lot of Bruins don’t make it so they can rest for the games that matter in June. Does anyone actually watch the all star game? I see it as a great weekend for a family vacation without missing any games….

The All-Star game is for the fans, so why not let the fans vote? It’s not like it actually means anything. Any GM that puts an All-Star clause in a contract is just looking for trouble.
