Agree that $30k is meaningless, but Tortorella is going to regret this. You only have to look at the Bruins last year to see how getting all the calls can turn a middle of the pack team into Cup champions.

I don't disagree. Officiating is tough in any sport. The NHL is pretty unique as a pro sport where enforcement of the rules doesn't just change game to game but also dramatically between the regular season and the post-season.

Really, the refs are in an impossible situation when the league office, coaches, players and fans all tacitly understand that the game has a sliding scale in the playoffs. How can you even give refs good feedback when you know the very same call they made in game 37 of the season does not apply in game 7 of the Eastern Final?

It's a very bizarre corner that pro hockey has backed itself into in the name of "tradition."

I'm a huge Ranger fan and I'm not happy with Tort. This will just make the refs look harder at the Rangers and make it harder for them to play physical.
All Tort did was bring my scrutiny down on his guys.

name a sport where the officiating is not complained about? the games are too fast now and we have the benefit of multiple replays sitting on our sofa's eating cheetos. beyond complaining, what do you want to do about it? and don't just say "get new officials". you would be a mess too out there.

It's no wonder that Torts was fined for hi comments. The league office stated players nor coaches could voice any objection over officials calls no matter how frustrating that can be. Peplecan complain all they want. As far as I know people have, and they wonder why some teams can't get a good fan base. It's not about winning or losing it's the CRAPPY officiating this league has had for the last 5 or 6 years.
People keep complaining they will not LISTEN. The top brass has there own agenda, and it has nothing to do with improving the game. This is a league that claims to have player safety first and foremost. I find it hard to believe that in pre lock out days if someone drew blood on a high stick they would get a major penalty now it's just a double minor. I know it's only a minute but when a team can score more than two goals and does a few times careless sticks will be cut down. et the convince you they are putting the playes first.

you may have loved it, but the rangers are going to loathe it as the season wears on. go ahead and google the NHL player that tripped a ref during a game. it was also a little classless to the people that put so much into that game and every game in the league.
