And who would trade at fair value for him given his appalling production and Anaheim's desperate bargaining position? That's the problem with a team in the hole as deep as Anaheim is - if big trades happen, they're desperation moves and the other GMs can try and often succeed in fleecing them, getting a big-name player who may well rebound to top form for way less than he's worth. That goes double when said player is having a terrible season, further driving down his value. Guy makes over five mil and his play so far wouldn't net four. Anaheim wouldn't get anywhere near as much out of this as whoever got Getzlaf.

I would trade you Joe Thornton for Getzlaf straight up, and if you add in a bag of pucks I would include Torrey Mitchell in the deal.

But no worries Anaheim Fans, because Doug Wilson loves soft players like Thornton and Marleau. And besides Getzlaf is not injured, has no injury history and actually plays a physical game all things that the Sharks don't like.

So the Ducks top center after making this trade is going to be... Saku Koivu? Then who are they going to sign in the offseason, Brad Boyes? Daymond Langkow?

Anaheim doesn't have poorer depth at any position other than center, trading their best player at that position (and only player who is a long term piece of the puzzle) would signal a major rebuild; at that point they might as well move Perry, Beauchemin, Visnovsky and anyone else they can get value for.

If this team wants to be competitive in the next two seasons they had probably best stick to plans to deal Ryan, maybe Lubomir Visnovsky too if they want to make big changes.. heck I would deal Corey Perry and try to capitalize on his value as the reigning MVP rather than trading Getzlaf.

I'd say it's too late for a push at the playoffs realistically, so why not? See if you can get some good draft picks, trade him to an Eastern team, and start rebuilding for next year with Perry, Ryan, and whomever else they retain.
