I’m suprised at the reaction on here. Two games seemed right for the hit, but good points about Torres’ week and seeming lack of respect. I don’t know if anyone has been so due for a steroids test since Bertuzzi – not that the NHLPA would allow it.

Multiple repeat offender, illegal hit, no injury resulted, leaves his feet
Wizniewski 10 games (didnt leave his feet)
Torres 2 games, even though he was warned and fined earlier in the same week.

Agreed, until Brendan Shanahan starts handing out some serious time off (think 10+ games for repeat offenders) coupled with a stiff fine (these $2,500 fines are a drop in the bucket to most of these players) these blatantly illegal hits will continue to occur.

2 games. Seriously? Can we have pre-season Shanny back please? Why is he backing off of the lengthy suspensions? Pressure from the GMs or the NHLPA or somebody?

I also really want the coaches and GMs to start putting pressure on these guys to shape up or ship out of their organizations. Look at what a difference that’s made with Matt Cooke.

If Matt !@#$% Cooke can clean up his act then Torres and Carcillo should be able to as well. But clearly they aren’t going to without some serious consequences.

Well, Brendan, you’ve proved me wrong. I’ll take anyone I’m convinced has a strong knowledge of the game and isn’t all bleeding-heart and trying to take fighting out or some stupid thing like that. Anyone who really knows the game and is passionate about it and doesn’t consider the job done until this shit stops happening, and is willing to lay on the pressure to do it. Shanahan, apparently, is content with the game as it is now. As long as the next candidate fucking ISN’T, I’ll give him a fair chance no matter where he comes from.

Isn’t this Torres’s third head shot this season? And he gets 2 BLOODY GAMES?!?!? This goes to show you that it doesn’t matter who’s handing out the discipline, this is a systemic problem not a personnel problem. Shanny’s not the problem and neither was Campbell, it’s the NHL as a whole that’s the problem.

Oh, yes, because people are really going to miss him in Phoenix. He gets a week’s vacation, the team doesn’t give a fuck and absolutely nothing changes. Christ, and here was me thinking twenty would send the right message, yet cynically expecting five. Turns out even when I’m cynical I’m a goddamn optimist. That, or Shanahan’s just terrible at his job.

These 2 and 3 game suspensions are working out so well as punishment and deterrent that I’m sure there won’t be another head hunting incident in the NHL for at least another 2 or 3 hours.
