NBC Sports Network debuts with Sharks-Canucks tonight

Jan 2, 2012, 4:00 PM EDT

Welcome to an all new world of 24-hour sports coverage.

Say hello to NBC Sports Network.

With a new name, NBCSN kicks things off tonight in a big way at 4 p.m. with NBC Sports Talk and return to the Winter Classic on NHL Live following that.

At 6 p.m. ET, you’ll see the debut of Summit Series ’72: Cold War On Ice featuring Canada and the Soviet Union. The new film features a ton of never before seen pictures and footage of the legendary on-ice war between the hockey superpowers.

Following that at 8 p.m. is a Western Conference rematch between San Jose and Vancouver. The Canucks have returned to form as one of the West’s best teams and looking for a bit more respect while the Sharks are looking to take a piece out of the team that crushed their Stanley Cup hopes last season.

It’s a big night of action to kick off a whole new world of sports programming.

Sharks are gonna be trounced. I HATE Todd Mclellan.

I don’t know about that ? … but it should be a good game regardless … can’t wait to see the Summit Series first though … for whatever reason, that series forever etched in my mind the most poignant hockey memories that I’ve ever had ? … I was only 13 at the time, but there is so much more to it than just fond childhood memories … our American friends should know that we were “expected” to cheer on Canada, yet you couldn’t help but admire the sheer skill and beauty of the Soviet game … in my honest opinion, during the decades since, the only thing that has come close to that type of wonderful hockey was Gretzky and the Oilers in the 80’s …

Nice! Winter Classic between Flyers and Rangers all that anyone could ask for. Great game so far.

The network needs a signature sportscenter nightly show featuring football and hockey and not so much NBA.

    Congratulations.
Hoping a variety sports talk programming will offer a variety of sports not a majority of pro football programming that was on Versus.
