This is probably the best thing to promote the sport that hockey has ever done. By saying that nobody watches it unless their team is in it,. Well, if you look at the ratings.. You're just flat out wrong, but who needs facts on the Internet? If you don't like it, you're in the minority so why not just ignore it instead of whining about it?

I'll just be glad when the game is over and the rest of the season begins. I haven't enjoyed a winter classic yet and am tired of the hype. That said, I enjoyed the Edmonton/Montreal game a while back, but it was not so over hyped and unwatchable.

bcjim 9s a fan of the nucks so hes got some sour grapes left over from last years stanley cup. he also makes snide moronic remarks on these boards all the time, don't pay any attention to what he has to say.

winter classic is fantastic for the league and the sport, the buzz in the city it generates is amazing. a few years back when it was at fenway, boston was alive and everyone was talking about it and skating on the rink at the park. i agree that doing it as a primetime event would be an interesting idea (especially on a week day) but i'm certain real fans will tune in regardless of puck drop time. and as for two teams that nobody cares about bcjim - rangers/flyers is a hell of a rivalry and this is coming from a bs fan who doesn't care for either team.

If you play in Florida maybe. But majority of the players in the NHL are Canadian. They have more outdoor rinks then indoor rinks. In America, we grow up with b-ball courts and baseball fields. We aren't use to having outdoor rinks. It's a big deal to most players. And the attention they get (HBO, NHL, media, etc.) has both sides feeding off of it. From the sounds of it, you probably aren't a fan of either team. Oh well, your loss.

I am pretty sure almost every player in the NHL at one point in their life played outside on an outdoor frozen surface. And this should be an exciting event for all hockey fans. I was at the alumni game yesterday, and even though my seats were so low that I had to watch the game on the big screen it was still a blast. It is an atmosphere unlike any regular season game I've ever been to. As for the 'side show', it is fun. Even if you aren't at the game, it is fun. I'm sorry if you don't enjoy life but most other hockey fans do and we want to enjoy this new tradition.

I am a huge hockey fan, but this "Winter Classic" thing is of virtually no interest. There is a zero percent chance I would ever go to one live. How could you see *anything* in a stadium? It is totally made for TV and in hockey, unless your team is playing....you're probably not watching.

If it was primetime, it would be more appealing but I am not disrupting my day to watch some hokey side show between 2 teams I dont like.

Even last year when the Caps were in it, I'd have rather seen a regular primetime matchup with the Pens. Minus all the extra fluff and ads.

Lets be real, most of these guys never played on a "pond", hockey is played in rinks....inside.
