This. In so many ways, this. Look at the hit that took out Shea Weber, one of the game’s top three defensemen and the up-and-coming best (Lidstrom has to retire SOMETIME, doesn’t he?), and tell me it’s not a headshot. Shoulder pistoned right into his fucking jaw and just like that, one of the game’s absolute elite is gone and there isn’t even a serious review. What the fuck. Spin the wheel of justice, see if you get lucky and the guy who cheapshotted you actually gets an appropriate punishment. This shit is like Russian roulette at this point. =/

Shanahan has proven he isn’t fair and has no clue what he is doing… the only good thing that has come from him are the videos explaining the ruling.

No rhyme or reason to Shannie ruling and league officiating way to much inconsistency.Squeaky wheels get the grease aka Shannie decision and officials don’t consistently apply the rules subjective vs objective. This is the NHL

Plain and simple look around the league and see how many teams are missing players due to injuries from questionable hits and then look to see how many players have been suspended since the first two weeks of the season. SHANASCAM.

The complete lack of consistency in officiating this year in the NHL is simply atrocious. I don’t know who is to blame. Terry Gregson (Director of Officiating), the influx of new officials, the rules committee, Shanahan, the GMs, the owners? I am not talking bias, I am talking about the fact that you can watch several games a night and the same infractions are not enforced the same way in each game. Sometimes not even within the same game or the same period. And it’s all types of penalties; interference, slashing, hooking, goalie interference, charging, headshots. You name it, the refs and Shanahan seem to be making it up as they go along. How are the players suppose to know what is legal and what is illegal? How are the fans suppose to know what’s a good call and what’s a bad call? I watch a lot of games and I mean a lot, and this is the way it is in EVERY game. The league’s officiating is a farce and something needs to be done about it.

Yeah, sure. Though he suspended (quite possibly) one of the most fair-playing hockey players ever in Pierre-Marc Bouchard for a lousy high stick for TWO GAMES! Yet, Bouchard gets boarded face first, breaks his nose, and is out for three games, and the perp gets nothing. I’m over Shanahan. It was a good idea… until he started choosing, rather than being fair.
