Yeah, I don’t think Kesler deserved that penalty at all and sure enough 30 seconds later they allowed this goal as if it was a make up call for Kesler. That’s what I thought atleast.

As a Vancouver fan, I was very surprised this counted. As I was watching it I was trying to convince my families members who were enjoying a holiday glow (drunk) that it was a bad goal. I know I would have lost it if it was the tying goal against us.

But, I think we can all say we have seen worse goals count, and better ones not. Someone said earlier, refereeing in the NHL is consistently inconsistent.

He’s the one stupid enough to complain about Hansen blowing an edge like it’s an intentional hit as villainous as the hits on him. I’m much less of a crazy conspiracy theorist. When a guy overbalances, I don’t find the nearest camera and start screaming “SEE! I WAS RIGHT! PROOF! PROOOOOF!”

But, then, I suppose they need to pay the man for SOMETHING. Lord knows stopping pucks seems to be too much of a hassle.

Don’t be ridiculous, danphipps this incident had nothing in common with the two other goons who wiped him out. In those two hits the players obviously went after Milller, this one the guy just bulldozed the goalie. I do think it should have been a penalty as he made no attempt to avoid the goalie though.
They do need to bring back the crease rule though.

I’m not calling it a conspiracy, but it really felt like the goal being allowed was a make-up for the botched call on the Kronwall charge.

I’m a Vancouver fan, but even I can admit such nonsense refereeing requires stronger and more accurate refereeing.

At first I thought Zetterberg knocked him into Howard but later they showed a different camera angle that showed Zetterberg barely touched him if he touched him at all.

Hanson lost an edge simple as that.

I think it was fair considering bertuzzi pushing salo into loungo counted earlier in the game. Not pretty but at least it was even for both sides

i also agree.. surprised it counted. seemed like the officials were “evening the playing field” because of some questionable situations in that game.

other than that, that game was the best game i’ve seen all season.. the kind of game the NHL should be hanging its hat on. other than this blown call of course

Im not saying anyone is wrong or that this was a clear good goal but if Zetterberg is not there Hansen doesn’t hit Howard…

Good remarks. Ryan Miller, Lindy Ruff, take note: this is how you address issues like these. Both are clear that Hansen lost his footing, Babcock says outright that there’s no penalty here. But the goalie was clearly interfered with, albeit accidentally, so the goal’s pretty bad. No weeping about “open season,” no “Suspend him, suspend him!” No predictions of the end of days. Just “That was a bad goal. He didn’t mean to run Jimmy, but that goal wasn’t fair.”

That’s the right way to state your case.

Fully agree. No penalty, but no goal. There was no intentional running of Howard on the part of Hansen, but it’s erroneous to suggest he wouldn’t have run into him had Zetterberg not “pushed” him.

Unfortunate instance in an otherwise fabulous game.
