If Engellend was as worried about the “Pens D” as much as you seem to be, maybe he doesn’t make the hit that way and cost his team his services for 3 games. Think these guys will ever get the memo???

Lots of great players are able to draw penalties. Sometimes they goad others into it with their skill and ability, other times they go down a bit easier to draw the ref’s attention. It’s been done since they started making pucks. Live with it.

1st offense 2 games min.
2nd offense players 5 games min & Head coach sits down 2 games
3rd offense player 5 games min & Head Coach sits 5
4th……..i dont think it would come to that. Most likely that player will be finding another job by then.

That will stop the repeat offenders and deter foolishness. You think any NHL player would want to be responsible for their coach getting suspended. If the NHL REALLY wants to crack down that’s how you do it. There will always be marginal 4th liners that dont care and just want to stay in the league by being “tough” but if they cost their coaches games it would be the only true way to hurt them.

You think Carcillo would continue acting like a fool if Q started getting games? (disclousure: Hawks fan here)

I agree. I wonder if B.S. has any power to suspend the idiot officials who not only didnt call a penalty on the hit but ended up giving the Pens a PP thanks to Scott standing up for his teammate.

Those refs are part of the problem.

B : He was in fact amazing, one of the best 3 players I’ve ever seen

No, Giroux was skating by, looking the other way. Malkin tried to elbow him in the head (fights happen with gloves off and sticks on the ground, not with gloves on and stick in hand throwing an elbow), and Giroux saw it coming and ducked it.

If they were fighting, Malkin would of stopped, not ran to the bench while trying to pretend it didn’t happen

Quality try at a horrible excuse though. Pens, dirtiest team in hockey, and have been for a decade

taking shots at a legend are we? sounds like sour grapes. google some of mario’s fights. he wasnt scared to drop em and held his own too. as for the “flopping”, its kind of a tough argument to back up since he played during the interference era when stick play, hugging, holding, and hooking was acceptable and rarely called. i cant really see how he gained any advantage by falling down, he really was that good and he scored goals with guys hanging off of him every night. whatever helps you sleep better at night though guy…

lol…you’re kidding about the malkin thing right? guys TRY to take each other’s heads off every night in the nhl. its called fighting. there’s no suspensions for it. they were running their mouths at each other and giroux wouldnt fight so malkin took a swing. its hockey

Mario’s only cheap shots were with the stick, since he convinced the refs he was puny like Wayne. He was also an excellent flopper, which really worked since they scored on over 25% of their power plays. When he had a force to be reckoned with ( Cam Neely ), he sent his henchman Ulf out there to take his knee (career).

Makes me think, they really out to be severe about knee checking too.

If you are so butt hurt about it, look at it this way. He only got suspended for 1 game, but he is serving the 2 games that Malkin SHOULD of got for trying to take Giroux head off a few weeks ago

I agree. This is similar to the NFL trying to get defensive players to stop hitting too much with the head – it is going to take awhile for NHLer’s to adjust, and there might have to be tougher discipline to encourage the adjustment.

I suspect you might be on here complaining about how light the suspension was if it were Sid on the receiving end. This is exactly the type of hit Mario says has no place in hockey. He’s right.

I figured two games at least for this one – I knew it was a suspension as soon as I saw it (though wasn’t surprised that the refs missed it – they always seem to miss these things). But three seems fair; that was a pretty brutal hit, and he didn’t have to leave his feet or launch himself to make the check.

3 games seems heavy to this Pens fan that loathes the situation of the Pens D right now. I can see 1 game for hitting a guy already engaged or leaving his feet as #8 in Washington does quite often, but 3 games seems heavy. As a hockey fan I have seen some hits this year that either did not get a suspension or one not as long as this so I’m not sure this makes sense to me.
