From all of the complaining they’re doing, you’d think that the Sabres are having a rough time this year solely because of guys running the goaltenders. Miller and company obviously have an agenda here – it’s almost like a coach working the refs during a game. But maybe they should pay attention to other things… like strengthening their play… instead of complaining about guys running goalies.

Besides, if you have defensemen who are willing to clear the front of the net and forwards who will stick up for their netminders, then you don’t really have that big of a problem.

Please. If anyone made the forwards stay out of the crease, we wouldn’t have this problem. But they don’t. So if the goalies defend themselves, fair enough. Besides, what about playing the puck? What’re they gonna do, leave it for the opposing team to grab behind the net? It’s this simple – don’t run the goalie regardless of where he is on the ice. If he jumps into a fight and starts swinging, well, fair enough, he’s put himself in a position where it’s fair to hit back – but impacting the goalie when you CAN avoid it (i.e. you didn’t get shoved into him like Kane or accidentally blow an edge like Hansen) isn’t acceptable anywhere on the ice, and is clearly listed in the rulebook as such.

IMO, if a goalie can fight, then they are fair game. I wish someone woulda knocked the **** outta Howard for coming up swinging.

Otherwise, stay in the crease and you’re fine, and we’ll make players stay outta the crease If EITHER crosses those lines, then fair game.

No kidding. Guy’s crazy aerodynamic for someone his size and bearing the weight of his gear. Does he wear big pads? Oh, by comparison to Snow’s era, definitely. But not really any bigger than anyone else’s these days, so I don’t think that’s saying much.

Weep us a river, Ryan. Look, we get that Milan’s hit was out of line. It’s right there in the rulebook. Pretty hard to ignore. But now you’re just taking every instance of a player bumping into a goalie and using it as excuse to find a camera to squeal at. Kane got knocked into Montoya by the D. It was pretty obvious from the replay, which you evidently didn’t care to watch. And Hansen? He blew an edge under pressure from the backcheck. He was trying to cut across Howard and go to the open side, but fell down. Not intentional either. I’d be thoroughly flabbergasted if either was suspended after Lucic’s run got jack shit. So yes, Ryan, we get that that was a shitty call, but don’t be an idiot. Every time a goalie and an opposing player make contact is not the end of the world. Shut. Up.

His pads being as big as they are is a joke. He looks like a sumo wrestler in net. Garth Snow thinks his pads are too big. And the dig wasn’t so much as Thomas as it was at Bruins fans who think he is the best goalie ever.

I like Miller a lot and Ruff I don’t hate, but at some point they’ll have to not treat every contact with the goalie as if it’s the NHL’s fault for not suspending Lucic. I have no problem with Kane as he legitimately gets bumped towards the net, and Hansen gets knocked off balance and falls into the net (hard to run a goalie when you’re on your ass), so both of the examples aren’t problems with it being open season.

There are certainly occasions where there’s intent, and we can rightly go after those, but you can’t focus on everything and try and cite was wrong with the world (or the league).

They need to re-institue the crease rule. Players shouldn’t have free reign in that area. On top of that, they need to decrease the size of goalie pads. This is why players have to bang in front of the net, because there is no room to shoot. Players beating a goalie clean with a shot is all to rare these days. It seems 90% of goals are garbage goals. Just look at Tim Thomas. He looks like Goldberg the goalie in there. He doesn’t have to move and nothing gets by him, yet Boston fans think he is the second coming of Hasek. It’s a joke.
