I was SHOCKED that a player on the Penguins of all teams would do something like this. EVERYTHING about the hit was wrong. The refs should be disciplined for having their eyes closed and not calling a major on it. The NHL HAS TO start sitting guys 10 games, because obviously what BS is doing has been a complete failure so far this year. Things seem to be getting worse not better. The Blackhawks in consecutive games has had a player blindsided by reckless hits. Start sitting guys 10 games and it will stop quickly.

I think that the NHL should, if it’s not already, amend Rule 41 and any other rule to deal with that hit. I think it should be a penalty to hit a player that is already being engaged physically by another skater. That player being engaged is vunerable and incapable to of protecting himself or even able to see the other guy coming.

I also agree that he should be suspended for not only leaving his feet, but for being engaged with another player at that moment and time. Could have gone in after the puck, but chose to put his hands up high and go after a defenseless player.

Anyone else notice how Matt Cooke’s been a pretty good boy this year so far? Haven’t heard a peep of his name anywhere (other than hit comparisons)

Probably should be suspended I guess. I think Engelland was mad for getting his feet taken out earlier which caused him to slam face-first in the boards. I don’t think Kruger was the one who did that, but it just seemed he was looking to the make the first big hit he could after that.

1-2 games, and the Pens D corps gets even more depleted.

That was a pretty bad non-call, but you can't punish him more harshly just because the Pens scored on the ensuing power play. (And, not for nothing, but that's not even the most blatant non-call that screwed the Hawks this month.) Suspend for the hit and its potential danger, not because of the scoreboard. The scoreboard is the refs' responsibility. I think Eddie was right at first intermission, the fact Kruger was already being checked by another guy, on top of Engelland leaving his feet, that's what makes this hit dirty (or at the very least on the borderline) than if it was just a one-on-one garden-variety, brain-scrambling high hit. That would be the reason to suspend him multiple games.

Scott did what had to be done with a missed call, but the Penguins scored on the power play that followed and went on to win the game by one goal. Justice is not yet served, there should be a suspension. The Penguins of all teams should understand.

I think definitely 2, maybe even 3-4 games for this. Very reckless hit.

This is probably worth a game or two since the refs obviously missed that call. They talk about getting to see it slowed down but it’s pretty clear in real time that Engelland jumps.

Only problem here is that Scott got a 2 min. instigator and a 10 min. misconduct. Let more players do what Scott did and guys will start thinking twice about throwing cheap shots.

Maybe one game in light of the ensuing beatdown. Not a multi-game loss, though. On-ice justice mitigates at least part of the sentence.
