As soon as we started this season expecting Mason to be the starter I thought he was delusional. We signed other goalies but none that were really established who at minimum would have serious consideration to compete with him for being the starter. I thought we still might be average but Mason has been worse than even I expected.

A good draft this summer, and maybe they can pull it off next year. This year... sorry guys, that horrible start to the year sank you already. Unless one of your goalies starts doing his Tim Tebow impression and starts winning constantly, it's over already in Ohio. Which sucks, because every year I start hoping this is the one where the Jackets really start to come together and look like a competitor.

Should add that such a transformation might be more likely for a young developing team like the Isles. For example, Nino Niederreiter has struggled with injuries for the first part of the year and JT, while he has played effectively and gotten assists, has been in a goal scoring slump. With MacDonald and Eaton returning from injuries on defense, if JT and Nino start scoring in bunches, the Isles could start racking up points. Since CLB is more of a veteran team and their players have returned from injury, that would seem less likely for them IMHO.

Been keeping track of things from the Islanders standpoint. Since the Isles not only are a few points ahead but also have games in hand on CLB, CLB's road is that much tougher to hoe. Isles probably need about 70 of remaining 102 points to make playoffs which would require a .673 winning percentage. This is right around the pace the top teams have been keeping this season. In other words, its not impossible, but it would require the team in question to suddenly transform itself into an NHL powerhouse. The Isles achieved something of that nature the second half of last year although it was too late to get back in the mix. Unlikely, but not impossible.

Math is on his side, logic is not.

They're trying to work Mason back into goal too, which I'm sure Howson thinks will end well. Ugh.
