Sportsnet is reporting that Philadelphia Flyers captain Chris Pronger (concussion) will be shut down indefinitely and could miss the remainder of the 2011-12 campaign.

Pronger met with neurologists Thursday for an examination by the same doctors that dealt with Sidney Crosby. He’s been out of the Flyers lineup since Nov. 19 with post-concussion symptoms.

According to reports, Flyers GM Paul Holmgren said the organization would make an official announcement on Pronger once he and the team had spoken with the doctors.

That led to the following tweets from Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos and TSN’s Bob  McKenzie:

In the interest of fair and balanced Twitter reportage, it should be noted that Philadelphia media folk (Sarah Baicker, Tim Panaccio and Frank Seravalli) say reports of Pronger’s season being over are premature.

I’m guessing he would just retire then

Could be the case. PHI certainly has to start planning for the post-Pronger era. Probably should have used the CLB pick for Dougie Hamilton instead of Sean Couturier.

Not now. It’s bad for the NHL.

Hopefully the new CBA has that amnesty clause so the Flyers can get out of the rest of his contract. In the meantime, I’m gonna guess Homer’s calling Nashville about getting Weber right now.

He can call, but my guess is that NAS will find a way to re-sign him. If they did trade him, it would likely be to a team w/ a lot more tradeable assets than Philly has.

IDK, Philly does have some assets that can be part of the trade. Carle (expiring contract), Gustafsson/Bourdon/Marshall, Schenn and a 1st rounder should be enough.

I’m curious to read the comments from Flyers fans who took pot-shots at Crosby during his concussion recovery…

last I checked crosby is out again from a mystrry soft hit…he is in the same position as pronger…out in jeopardy.

Well now the cheap shot total for the league will go down.

I for one hope he & the Flyers takes this seriously, as the pens did not w/ crosby last season and now look where he is.
