Shootout have always been about the 1-on-1 battle between the player and the goalie. The spotlight for the famed “triple deke.” Sure you would never be able to pull this off in a game, but it’s about how you can beat the goalie. It’s very difficult to score on a modern goaltender, so the creativity will run wild with some of these guys. I think shootouts are great for the fans but TERRIBLE for teams.

not sure i like that goal.. those are shinny skills and you’d never get away with something like that in a game because you’d never have the time.

therefore.. does it belong in the game? i’m undecided.

If you don’t like watching the Hawks play with their current roster, you have something wrong with you! haha Towes, Kane, Hossa, Sharp, and Keith…just great to watch the chemistry on a team that has fun out there.

I have no problem with shootouts, but I do have a problem with getting a point for losing a game. I grew up without that BS, so I dislike it now. But that’s just my opinion.

Why not just play 5-5 OT till someone scores if you are going to drag the game out with all that.. Shootout is the best way in the regular season. Of course, we could always go back to “kiss-your-sister” ties.

As long as they remain a regular season only thing.. Don’t want to see a playoff game decided in this fashion. Playoff OT Hockey is the best moment in all of sports. Every shift and every shot brings a reaction.

As sweet as that goal was, I cannot stand how cheap the shoot out point is.

I can’t beleive how exciting 4-4 is for those 5 min. That’s FAR more exciting than the shootout.

I think they should do: 4-4 5 Min. 3-3 5 Min. THEN if no one scores, do a shoot out. Maybe even 4-4 for 10 min. It’s so exciting seeing end to end to end, that 5 min flies by way too fast!

Absolutely wrong. I watch other games all the time and rarely go a day without catching NHL on the Fly. My statement still stands.

Look at the fans in the arena. Purists may not like it, but shootouts are fun. And they’re here to stay.

Anyone who says the Wild play boring hockey is wrong. Last night’s game against Winnipeg and tonight against Chicago were two of the most exciting games I’ve seen all season from any teams.
