He’s a decent penatly killer though just don’t expect him to light the lamp.

You are correct he’s not a proven goalie….because he’s a forward….and a bunk one at that, very glad he’s no longer with MN

Tampas main priority should have been to find a goalie in the offseason…but no. They skipped over Tomas Vokoun, Ilya Bryzgalov, Mike Smith, and Cedrick Desjardins. Vokoun and Bryzgalov certainly had their share of poor performances this season, but they were isolated and they usually followed up with a contract-winning performance. Then you have former Tampa players Mike Smith and Cedrick Dejardins. Smith was the source of Tampa’s goalie conundrum last season and was sent down to Norfolk. When he came back, he played EXTREMELY well. In the playoffs, he played well there too, after he was called to arms after Roloson was pulled on multiple occasions in the playoffs (should have been a bad sign). He allowed an average of 1 GAA and was rewarded with a .958 save%.

So Tampa has the offseason to make a decision and they bank on an older goalie on his last season or so over a goaltender at the beginning of his career showing some major promise in key situations. Smith wanted to be a starter and his now…a great one at that as he slipped into Bryzgalov’s shoes comfortably. Stamkos waiting on the perfect deal certainly tied their hands to sign better talent out there, but Stamkos is a backbone to the team they couldn’t afford to lose. So then there is Desjardins. Makes his first two NHL starts for 2 big wins and a GAA of 1.00 and save percentage of .968…he looked great out there then he gets injured. Why not keep him along for the farm system and maybe call him up at a time like this? Nope, shipped off to Colorado’s system now.

I said this before and I’ll say it again. Yzerman made the wrong moves in net.

This isn’t as bad for Tampa as one might think. Miettinen is a decent enough player, but he’s not really a proven goalie. And since that’s what Yzerman’s sole priority should be right now, now he can stop thinking about crap like this and go find someone to stand between the pipes whose name isn’t ‘Roloson’.
