These truly are worthless lists – Minnesota has the best record in the league and they’re sitting 8th – Philly is 10th? Meanwhile, the Rangers couldn’t muster a single goal last night vs a 3rd string goalie from the AHL – Go Stars!

Eh. True, they’re a choke squad, but they’re nowhere near the bottom. Porous defense, hot-and-cold scoring, lack of grit despite having plenty of supposed tough guys, all of this is true, but they’re still miles above the Jackets, Bolts, Hurricanes, et cetera. Although when you think about it, it’d be better if they WERE that bad. At least then they’d get draft picks. Right now they’re looking like they’ll suffer the slow death of the Calgary Flames by virtue of trying to force a win with a roster that can’t do it instead of trading their big pieces while they can still get good returns.

I HOPE they do, but I’m not expecting it.

I think Cullen looks too deeply into statistics when he does his rankings. Wouldn’t the Penguins be number one if they can be this successful without some of their best players? Same with the Flyers losing Pronger and the Wild having to use 3 different goalies and still winning low scoring games.

I was just scrolling to the bottom to write that the Sharks should be much lower on that list. In addition to terrible defense and special teams they also have an embarrassing “spray and pray” or “hammer and hope” offense and the worst breakout I’ve ever seen on an NHL rink.

None of this is new but if you give professional coaches 3 years to figure you out and you barely make any significant strategic adjustments during that time it’s bound to bite you in the behind.

I think your opinion is debatable. This week, yes MN is being hyped, however they’ve been underrated most of the year. I believe the Wild are something like 17-4 in the last 21. That’s a pretty damn solid stretch. And I believe there’s some old saying about a hot goalie can take you far. We could have two of them. Besides Boston, which top team has better goaltending or team defense. Hockey, especially in the playoffs is about more than 100 pt scorers and Fantasy stats. I’d say D, depth, and timely scoring. Go Wild!

Put the sharks at the bottom. Their horrendous defense and not so special special teams are a laughingstock. I’m hoping for a rebuild in Teal Town. Let this team fool you no more because they suck.

Given the Pronger and Giroux injuries… I think its fair to say the Flyers are outside the top 5 right now. Not sure I would put them as low as 10th yet, but that is the direction they will probably be trending.
