I think he probably has 2 years (rest of this year, and next), before he really comes in to his own all together. However, I really like his 2 way play, especially for an 18 year old. The kid has all the talent in the world, I think he just needs to get a bit bigger physically. He’s still pretty much rail thin, and you can see he gets pushed around sometimes. I think they’ll have him focus on gaining bulk this off-season, then it will take him a while to get used to playing with the added bulk. I think by his second season, he’ll take off come playoff time (much like JVR did for them last year, or Giroux the year before that)

I wouldn’t dismiss Couturier so quickly, he’s got a ton of talent. I mean, obviously he’s not Claude Girouz, but moving from playing with guys like Zac Rinaldo to playing with Jagr and Hartnell, I think he can surprise a lot of people

The Caps were crap during Jagr’s tenure because they followed the example set by their highest paid player, and supposed superstar, Jagr. For someone to say “I can’t blame him” for playing the way he did in DC is asinine.

interesting view point from a DC fan. dont see how you could compare the two. redskins traded a shutdown corner for a dime a dozen running back for crying out loud (remember Bailey for Portis?) redskins are notorious for wasting draft picks and money on washed up players (Randle El, McNabb, Archuleta). you should blame management on the haynesworth debacle, why you pay a guy who played in a 4-3, convert him to a 3-4 is beyond me, plus he stomped on a guy. Jagr was a proven veteran who earned his money…anybody would have paid him what the caps paid him…he deserved it. he went to a team as shitty as the caps after winning two cups and playing with one of the best centers in the history of the game so i really cant blame him for playing frustrated.

I can see that feeling on Jagr. He had a track record as one of the best players in the world since he came in the NHL. Haynesworth on the other hand, was seen as a guy just playing when he felt like it. I don’t see why they’d be so mad that he was the exact guy they were told he was

He is viewed the same way DC fans view Fat Albert Haynesworth. A guy who plkayed his butt off to get a nice contract and then put his hard work and effort on a shelf in the closet. Screw Jagr.

The Capitals should have sued him for lack of effort, imo. He was so disinterested it made me sick. I hope Ovechkin pummels him like he did in the Olympics.
