That’s the thing – there’s really only a few players now who grew up WITHOUT them. The NHL is fairly pronouncedly behind most amateur leagues in safety in some ways, and their defense has always been that the players wouldn’t be comfortable, wouldn’t adjust, that it would interfere with play, et cetera. I’m not sure how they figure that argument holds up in an age where to even get to the NHL every player under thirty’s been in three or more leagues where they’re MANDATORY, but then, Gary Bettman doesn’t like it when the fans actually stop and think about the things he says.

What’s interesting is the guys in College have to wear a full face mask and many wear a cage.. It is surprising how many shed it once they get to the NHL.. Seems like if you just continue wearing it it would be part of your equipment.

I like my teeth and have too much invested in them, and I wouldn’t go on the ice without a full cage, but I only play recreationally. For a player to consider wearing a full cage in the NHL today would be like wearing ANY helmet in the NHL in the ’70s and before. I don’t know if it’s considered not manly enough, or the visibility is too restrictive, or what. It is a little harder to yell on the ice with both a mouthguard and the chin strap that’s attached to the cage.

That sucks. The Bolts are already playing like crap and now Marty has to sit. Let’s hope it is not for long term.
I’ll never understand why guys don’t wear visors. I get that if feels “different” when you first wear it but if you can get past the first month, it really shouldn’t be much of an issue.
Your vision has to last a lifetime. They don’t transplant eyes.
