You mean, Carolina will have to try and be a competitive team to make the playoffs now, instead of repeatedly making bonehead moves like re-hiring Maurice, signing Kaberle, relying on the worst top 6 on D that money can buy, thinking Brandon Sutter can be a second line centre, and on, and on, then relying on the relative weakness of their division and a hot goaltender to give them a shot at a run in the playoffs? Oh no!

NYI fans were bummed as well…until I pointed out that the NYI would actually be 2 points CLOSER to a playoff spot under realignment.

Perhaps Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford should focus more on making his own team better and follow the models for success that the rest of the teams in their new conference have followed recently to build for the future. Sorry you will no longer be able to get into the playoffs with a roster full of bums. No one feels bad for you Carolina!

Boo hoo Carolina. There position being a top seed in the conference when they barely had more points than 8th a few years ago is a reason why this new realignment is good. 6 divisions with weak sisters in them is gone after this season, and it can’t happen soon enough.
