I’m still baffled that Sather wrote that contract. I mean, we all know he’s completely insane, but SEVEN MILLION? The only thing crazier than Glen Sather’s notions of the value of money is the fact that he managed to trick Montreal into taking him.

A buyout for Gomez really wouldn’t be all that expensive. The Canadiens would only owe him $6.66667 million, almost a full million less than a single season of his contract, saving them nearly $9 million over the next two years. With cap hits of 3.5 in 2012-13, 4.5 in 2013-14 and 1.7 in 14-15 and 15-16. I’d say it’s well worth it to get rid of a player who’s obviously lost his ability to play in the league for any salary. This isn’t a Wade Redden situation where he could play in the league if he wasn’t on such a huge contract. This is a situation where the guy no longer belongs in the league under any contract.
