This was a clean hit. It was Richards right side that was the PPC (principal point of contact), not his head. Bergenheim kept his elbow low and though his shoulder may have contacted Richards’ head it was not the PPC; it was at most a consequence of a clean hit. Also Richards was not in a vulnerable, defenseless position, you can see Richards recognized the hit was about to occur and made an adjustment with this left hand to try and minimize the contact.

Also, @sippindasyzurp, I heard recently that mouth guards and not necessarily a cure all / prevent all for concussions, and not too sure that a cage would do much to minimize their occurrence. Personally, I think the league should go back to the no helmet days and I think everyone would show more respect for each other if they were all in the same a vulnerable position.

I am all for punishing players for headshots, but this is a clean hit hands down… textbook hit… If you wanna really start putting a damper on concussions make them wear cages and mandatory mouthguards??? Ya right didnt think so…

I guess it’s a hit to the head, but I doubt this is suspendable. Unfortunate hit, hopefully Richards is OK.
