Not dumb at all.

Ovechkin needs a HUGE KICK IN THE PANTS. He’s lazy.

He needs a coach that he can’t submarine, a coach that is known for winning WITHOUT him, and a place where his non-performance and playoff submarining can’t be blamed on the plan, but only on him.

sounds dumb…really dumb…when you first hear it. but in terms of salary cap, image, etc…think of this..

three way deal between CAPS, Sabres, Ducks

Ovie to the Ducks to reunite with Boudreau (this time withOUT Semin)
B.Ryan, R.Miller to the CAPS
whole ton of draft picks to the rebuilding Sabres

and then the CAPS find someone to take the bait on the bust that is A.Semin..

just a thought, would never happen, but not completely illogical

Agreed. The Oilers were broke and needed the money (didn’t Gretzky’s wife use that line once?). But the Caps? Leonsis probably has $15 million in his couch cushions.

The difficulty in trading Ovie has more to do with uncertainty right now. He has been pretty brutal this year. Are you certain he will pull out of this? If you are not (relatively) certain, you cannot bring that contract on board.

Well, the owner of the Oilers received 15 million bucks for the Gretzky trade, so his motive was obvious. That situation doesn’t apply in Washington.

This is going to sound sort of crazy but as a flyers fan I can tell teams (my own for lindross) have traded Stanley cup winning teams for that kind of star power. What would a team like LA give up for a guy who could be hockey’s version of Kobe out west. Or how bout a small market team like Columbus, if they acquired Alex they would have sell outs the rest of way.

I think the caps should really debate this if they do not turn it arround. They may very well be able to get draft picks and 2-3 really good young players any of whom could be the next forsberg, whom the flyers traded along some other key talent and trade pieces and picks for lindross. So this kind of trade is possible.

All that being said unless a team is offering 2 very young near future all star type players and acouple of first to trade a guy who puts butts in the seats and pucks in the net.

Trade him at the end of this year? Absolutely no way. That being said, they signed Ovie to that huge deal to bring a Cup to Washington. If he can’t do that in the next 4 – 5 years I can see his being traded becoming a more serious possibility
