Derick Brassard’s agent slams Columbus head coach

You know how there were a bunch of trade rumors surrounding Blue Jackets forward Derick Brassard? Yeah, you’re about to hear a bunch more thanks to Brassard’s agent, Allan Walsh, who absolutely ripped Columbus coach Scott Arniel in a statement to Dispatch reporter Aaron Portzline.

Apparently Walsh is none too pleased with his client spending so much time in the press box as a healthy scratch.

“While I have tremendous respect for (general manager) Scott Howson and the rest of Columbus’ management team, the situation regarding Derick Brassard has become untenable,” said Walsh. “The coach has a history of burying players and using them as scapegoats to mask his own lack of success on the ice. Derick has been singled out, almost from the very beginning of the season, to be the fall guy in case things don’t go well. The Columbus organization cares about Derick and has been good to him, but at some point, one has to say, enough is enough.”

Brassard has two goals and two assists in 18 games, so obviously his coach has it out for him. I mean, what else does the guy have to do? Score three goals?

Want to know a great way to not get sent to the press box?

    Play better.

“While I have tremendous respect for (general manager) Scott Howson and the rest of Columbus’ management team…”

Exhibit A, your honor, that Allan Walsh is either a pathological liar or doesn’t know a damn thing about hockey. NO ONE has a great deal of respect for the Columbus management team because a) they have not earned ANY and b) their decisions on and off the ice point to a group of men who are either completely incompetent and/or continuously drunk. Mr. Walsh I have no doubt your client could be successful in Pittsburgh, Boston, or Detroit because of the talent that would surround him. But, honestly, while the kid is likable enough, he really isn’t that good. And on a god-awful team like the Jackets, it’s painfully obvious that there are a large number of shortcomings in his game. I can respect your desire to get him out of Columbus. Everyone who has suffered through a Jackets game this year wants out of Columbus.

    Allan Walsh strikes again.

Is it just me or does this guy have an unusually high proportion of clients that need their agent to fight their battles for them?

Then again his ridiculing of non-client Carey Price suggests he probably just loves the attention.

This guy is delusional. Agents should be neither seen nor heard. Columbus has made many personnel mistakes, but benching Derick Brassard isn’t one of them.

Where’s cannonblast14 been all season? I miss him.

If he’s a season ticket holder, he’s weeping that his tickets have less value than Lehman Brothers stock certificates. I only have a partial and I can’t give them away. Honestly, you offer the tickets for free and people say “No, thanks.” and look at you like you tried to spit on them. The damn things are practically radioactive.

Check attic rafters- if you find a rope and a kicked-over chair, he’s probably between the two items.

(Nah, actually things seem to be improving overall in Columbus, this sideshow aside. Not GOOD by any means, and that October nightmare has doomed any chance of relevance down the stretch, but maybe they’re not as bad as they appeared back then after all?)
