Selanne deserves another notch on the belt, it’s absolutely a given. And even if he didn’t win it one more time, for God’s sake he deserves to at least make the fucking playoffs as a legitimate contender with a team that isn’t losing every time they hit the ice. They’re making a mockery of a star player’s last year. They owe him more than this. He deserves a better send-off, and even the new Jets seem more capable of doing it – along with almost every other team in the League.

That’s little consolation to Marc Savard now. But it is good to see from Cooke. He was doing his own team no favors with the goon tactics because it motivated other teams to go after Crosby and made Lemieux look like a hypocrite. As much as people dump on Shanahan, concussions and head shots are down 50% this year. Hopefully, Pacioretty gets this message from Shanahan.

Is it weird that until reading the above comment that it just hadn’t occurred to me that we’re two months into the season and Matt Cooke hasn’t done anything balls-stupid yet? I hate to call two months a reformed player, but… well, has he gone two months without stupidity-in-motion before?

This Shanahan guy, maybe he’s on to something here. Scare the hell out of the morons, and they’ll clean up their act.

Claude Julien seems to be mainly trolling the Canadiens and not Pittsburgh. It’s not as if anyone in Pittsburgh has ever denied that Cooke blindsided Savard with an elbow and that he was a dirty player (seems to have cleaned up his act this year). If rule 48 was in place and Shanahan was doling out the punishment, Cooke would have been suspended for the Savard hit. Maybe Pacioretty believed the league “owed him one” because Chara checked him into the stanchion. But there was no free pass for a blindsided headshot. Good for Shanahan.

You know, it just occurred to me- Selanne has been pretty much the only Duck pulling his weight… how bad would this team be if he’d retired the way he teased at this PAST summer instead of the coming one?
