Ryan Jones won’t be suspended for his totally clean body check

Last night saw Edmonton’s Ryan Jones given a five-minute major for elbowing Nashville’s Blake Geoffrion.

Problem here is that Jones didn’t come close to elbowing Geoffrion at all when he put him down behind the net.

Jones hit Geoffrion with a clean shoulder-to-shoulder check that saw the official get a bit too anxious and send him off for a major. That major then led to two soft make up calls against Nashville during the five minutes and turned that span of the game into a regular eye-rolling fiasco.

Thankfully, ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun reports that Jones will not see any further punishment from the league for the play. As for the play in question, check out the video here courtesy of The Score in Canada.

Sanity prevails off the ice even when it does not on the ice.

Jones is a wannabe thug who has a chip on his shoulder since he was dumped by the Preds. He was peeved at Jordin Tootoo but didn’t have the pucks to go toe to toe with him.

What does this have to do with the fact he got 5 minutes for a perfectly legal check?

Plus, he could not fight Tootoo, as Jordan was too busy flying through the air on a dive to give yet another undeserved penalty to Gilbert. I like Tootoo, but that was an egregious dive. At least he got called for it, but I have no idea why Gilbert still got the penalty.
